Frequently Asked Questions

Everything from pricing and response times to what we can and can't tow.

Yes. BJ Towing's dispatch line is answered 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays. Night and holiday calls are handled by the same local crew, not an outsourced answering service.

It depends on where you are and what traffic is doing, so we give you an honest estimate on the call instead of a blanket promise. Our trucks are based in Plainfield, which keeps us close to Route 59, I-55, Route 126 and US-30, and we'll update you if anything changes while you wait.

Cars, SUVs, minivans, pickups, motorcycles and medium-duty work trucks and vans, plus lowered, all-wheel-drive, electric, classic and exotic vehicles that need a flatbed. If you drive something unusual or it's loaded or pulling a trailer, tell the dispatcher so the truck that arrives is rated for it.

You get one flat price on the phone before we dispatch, with no separate hookup fee or per-mile charge, and the number doesn't change at the drop-off. The quote depends on distance, vehicle type and the situation (a driveway pickup costs less than a winch-out from a ditch).

That's our specialty. Every tow rides on a flatbed, and we use soft straps, low-angle loading and extra care for low-clearance, classic and high-value vehicles.

Many calls end without a tow. Dead battery, locked keys inside, a flat tire or an empty tank are roadside assistance jobs we handle right where you are. If the car still can't move safely, we tow it; you'll never pay for both when one would do.

We're a direct-call service, so you pay us and we give you an itemized receipt with photos if needed. Most insurers and motor clubs reimburse covered towing and roadside expenses; check your policy for the details.

Ask the dispatcher when you call and they'll confirm the options for your service.

Often, yes. Tell the dispatcher the destination and we'll quote the whole trip up front, including longer runs across the Chicago area by arrangement.

Yes to motorcycles (loaded upright and strapped), vans, pickups and medium-duty work trucks, and we handle job-site equipment by arrangement. Tell the dispatcher what it is, what it weighs and whether it's loaded or pulling a trailer so the truck that arrives is rated for it.

Plainfield, Naperville, Joliet, Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Shorewood, Lockport, Crest Hill, Oswego, Aurora, Montgomery, Woodridge, Lemont, Darien, New Lenox and Lisle, plus the Will County roads between them. See our service areas page for local details.

The dispatcher gives you the driver's name and a description of the truck. Keep your phone handy; the driver may call when close, especially on the interstate.
