Motorcycle Towing in Plainfield, IL
BJ Towing tows motorcycles, trikes and sidecar rigs in Plainfield, Illinois and the southwest suburbs, 24 hours a day. The bike travels upright on a flatbed with both tires off the pavement, and you hear one flat price before the truck is dispatched.
Does the bike really need a truck?
After you’ve gotten clear of traffic, run through the basics: the kill switch, fuel in the tank, neutral, and whether your model wants the stand up or the clutch in to start. Sometimes a splash of fuel or a battery boost is all it takes, and our roadside crew can do that without a tow. Give the make and model on the call and we’ll work out which it is.
Park it and call when you see
- A flat or cut tire, a bent rim, or steering that feels wrong
- Weak or strange braking, or brake fluid on the ground
- A chain or belt that has snapped, slipped or frayed
- Fuel, oil or coolant dripping underneath
- New knocking or grinding, repeated stalling, or a warning light the manual says to stop for
- A headlight, brake light or signal failure that makes riding unsafe right now
After a spill or a tip-over, a bike that starts can still be unsafe. If you see damage, spot a leak, feel something odd in the handling, or simply aren’t sure, have it carried to a shop and checked.
Stalled on Route 30, Route 59 or the interstate
In heavy traffic a small problem becomes a dangerous one, so don’t troubleshoot with cars passing at speed. If it’s safe, move yourself and the bike out of the lanes, and if anyone is hurt, call 911 before you call us. Then tell us the road, the direction you were heading, and the nearest mile marker, exit or intersection, and where the bike is: shoulder, median, or wheeled into a parking lot. Keep your phone close so the driver can reach you.
How we haul a bike
The whole bike goes up on the deck, neither tire on the pavement, braced and strapped using tie-down points and equipment picked for that model and its condition. A faired sport bike loads differently from a touring bike with hard luggage, and a locked steering head, a seized wheel or crash damage changes the plan too. Mention aftermarket parts, a sidecar or a trike on the call so the right gear comes along. Curious how we’ll tie it down? Ask before we start and we’ll walk you through it.
What we ask on the call
- Where it is: an address or a spot on the highway, and anything in the way of the truck.
- What it is: the make and model, and any damage or modifications.
- Whether it rolls: do both wheels turn, does the steering move, and do you have the key?
- Where it’s going: your garage, a dealer or a shop, with the full address. If it’s a shop, confirm they’ll be open or have agreed to an after-hours drop.
The price is set before the truck leaves. Need a ride yourself? Say so when you call and we’ll tell you if the truck has room. While you wait, take a few condition photos if the bike is out of traffic, empty the saddlebags of anything you’ll want, and tell the driver about an alarm or a locked steering head before loading. When it’s unloaded, inspect the bike before the driver goes, or leave the shop your number and a short summary of what went wrong.

Do you tow motorcycles at night?
Yes. Motorcycles get the same round-the-clock dispatch as cars, across the whole service area.
Do you need a special trailer for a motorcycle?
A purpose-built motorcycle trailer is one good option; our flatbeds are another, with both tires off the road and the tie-down approach adjusted for each bike and its condition.
How far will you tow a motorcycle?
Local runs and trips across the Chicago area are routine, and longer trips are possible by arrangement. Give us both addresses and the whole trip is quoted as one number.
